We will discuss strategies, policies, design philosophies and implementation of successful Urban Planning and Neighborhood Revitalization. We will use the City of Detroit and its recent downtown and neighborhoods as case studies to explore historic adverse impacts of highway construction through vibrant communities, environmental degradation and urban blight, as well as the renewed interest, execution of substantial urban projects that is fostering downtown and neighborhood stabilization. We will also explore new sustainable approaches to urban development from both a planning and architectural perspective, but more importantly how the myriad of positive changes that are taking place in the City of Detroit have had and are having on the citizenry of one of American's greatest cities.
