This course reviews all aspects and benefits of attic/roof ventilation. Most North American houses and small buildings are constructed with an insulated space (an attic) between the home’s ceiling and the roof deck. Where such a space exists above an occupied interior, it must be properly ventilated. Adequate ventilation can reduce harmful condensation, the formation of ice dams during, and excessive attic heat build-up.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Definitions and examples of attic ventilation systems.
The reasons for ventilation - benefits for the health and welfare of the building and/or occupants/homeowner, including moisture and temperature control as well as structural and roof system integrity.
How to interpret Building Code ventilation requirements in order to ensure shingled roof system compliance.
Practical aspects of ventilation - types of vents and installation overview.
