Hard Hat Tour: Hingetown Creative Hangers-New Construction

  • Meet at the Northwest corner of W 28th Street & Church Avenue. 1432 W. 28th Street Cleveland United States (map)

This is a special mid-construction hard-hat tour of a multi-use work/live units in Ohio City that have the appearance of attractive WWII Quonset huts. These seven, separate units are constructed of galvanized steel frames and are covered with ribbed metal exterior siding/foofing, with poly-carbonite fronts for natural light. The seven units sit casually at random angles on a landscaped, urban site, amongst historic and new structures with a courtyard.

This course will explore the unique construction needs for this type of exterior shell.

Participants will be required to wear the following PPE:

  • Attendees will explore the under-construction units and site layout, relavite to access, parking, and approach; how they were sited, with foundation placement and structural needs relative to this particular urban siting.

  • Attendees will examine the construction technique for placing and securing the Quonset hut shell and steel framing on foundation and slab, along with discussion on the unique issues relative to this exterior shell system; how interior framing is placed relative to the hut exterior; how window framing and trim is installed relative to the corrugated shell; and how side wall window systems are connected to the curved shell.
