Design Entrepreneurship can be a challenging and robust pathway at times, but if it is sustainable, it can reap several rewards. This series is an exploration of various business models within Design Entrepreneurship, how these models were created, and how to sustain them over time.
This series is a part of the Design Entrepreneurship & Inclusion Initiative at Kent State University’s Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative.
Bio:
Mr. Bickerstaff founded Ubiquitous Design, LTD as a Junior in college to supplement his income while a student matriculating through Washington University’s school of architecture. Mr. Bickerstaff has more than twenty-two years of direct project management. He has completed numerous design projects throughout the Northeast Ohio region as an intern with various architectural firms, as well as serving as Chief Architect within the City of Cleveland’s Division of Architecture. He has played significant roles in the design of the Northeast Ohio Headquarters for the Red Cross and the City of Cleveland’s Greenhouse Addition. He has also designed numerous residential, commercial, and institutional projects, not the least of which is the City of Cleveland’s African American Cultural Garden located in the Historic Rockefeller Park.
As Founder and Principal Architect of Ubiquitous Design LTD he is responsible for the execution of all aspects of the office from development of proposals and pre-design services to construction administration. His commitment and dedication ensure the successful completion of projects both large and small. As an example of our project portfolio’s diversity, we have designed buildings ranging in value from Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) to Twenty-Four Million ($24,000,000.00). This is a testament to our ability to embrace any scale project and give it the level of professionalism it deserves.
