Business of Architecture: Perception, Strategy, and Finance

  • Vocon 3142 Prospect Avenue East Cleveland, OH, 44115 United States (map)

During this session, we will hear from a twenty-year firm owner Kathy Dixon, FAIA, NOMAC, LEED AP+, NCARB, CDT and the co-author of the book “The Business of Architecture: Your Guide to a Financially Successful Firm,” whose company has evolved from sole proprietor to a partnership and seen exponential growth even through the pandemic.

The Business of Architecture: Discussion on Perception, Strategy, and Finance, is an introductory session discussing different business models and firm operational structure. The participants will become familiar of different paths they can take in advancing their career development and different approaches to becoming firm owners. We often times approach the business of architecture from a design only point of view, but not much is discussed or taught on the business side, how to continue to exist and what it takes to grow.

EVENT LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Attendees will learn about fundamentals of firm structure and firm business models.

Attendees will explore the common measures used to determine firm financial success

Attendees will develop an understanding how the public's perceived value of the architect has affected the industry and profitability.

Attendees will acquire new knowledge and the ability to identify key elements to apply in their strategic approach to leading their architecture practice.
