Cleveland Design Awards
Each year, AIA Cleveland recognizes excellence in design by inviting local firms to submit their best work to be reviewed by nationally renowned juries from all over the country. Last year’s Design Awards ceremony was held at the Hilton Cleveland Downtown where nearly 500 attendees gathered to celebrate and recognize architectural and interior design excellence in Cleveland and northeast Ohio.

This year’s AIA keynote speaker and AIA design awards jury chair is Marlon Blackwell, FAIA. Marlon is a practicing architect in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and serves as the E. Fay Jones Distinguished Professor at the Fay Jones School of Architecture + Design at the University of Arkansas. Working outside the architectural mainstream, his architecture is based in design strategies that draw upon vernaculars, typologies, and the contradictions of place: strategies that seek to transgress conventional boundaries for architecture. His design work has received recognition with numerous national and international design awards and significant publication in books, architectural journals and magazines.

It is our pleasure to announce the 2017 AIA Cleveland Design Awards. This year’s event will be held at the Tenk West Bank on Friday evening, November 10th, 2017. The Tenk West Bank started its life as the Eclipse Iron Works foundry in 1879. The building, expanded twice in the late 1800s, served as the longtime home of Bruce-MacBeth Engine Co. and, ultimately, housed Tenk Machine & Tool Co. The property’s industrial run ended nearly a decade ago. We are looking forward to this year’s event as an opportunity to continue collaborating with the local design community in recognizing architectural design excellence in Cleveland and northeast Ohio.
